My son couldn't open the lid to get to the potty by himself. I like the actual toilet seat in the OneStepAhead catalog. It has a child-size seat built in to the adult size seat. (Flip through the catalog--you'll see it.) I have it installed but H is not ready for it yet (sigh). A cheap option (we are currently utilizing with some success) is the FisherPrice froggy potty. Cute, inexpensive and seems user-friendly. I bought it at Target for $9, and I figure that this way I don't have to train him once on the little seat and once on the real toilet; when he's big enough to sit on the real toilet seat, we'll take away the insert.
