Fashion Plate

Since it's been cool in the mornings, but then 80-to-90 degrees by the afternoon, we have been wearing alot of Babylegs around here.  (And by "we" I really mean "her" since they don't make adult-sized babylegs.)

So here's a sampling of our layered outfits.

That's a denim jumper and pink t-shirt paired with the plie BL.

Black ribbed turleneck, plaid skirt, and red BL.

And this outfit never got into a photo in its entiretey.  I have a photo of the dress, sweater, and pirouette BL playing with the neighbor's new puppy.

So that's my little fashion plate and her layered looks from last week.  Guess I need to figure out what we're wearing this week.  (And by "we" I still mean "her"!)

My Baby Can Read!

OK, so not so much "read" as much as "recognize". 

We have the book Bubbles Bubbles, which repeats that word twice at the beginning of each page.  We have the book Mama Mama, which repeats that word twice at the beginning of each page.

I guess all that repetition helps!

The Stash

No, not our diaper stash.  It hasn't changed much from the last time I posted photos.

Our BabyLegs stash.

See, BabyLegs has been having sales all summer.  I managed to resist the really awesome 4th of July sale.  But when she was offering 50% off, I couldn't refuse.

I used the excuse that I was "stocking up" for fall and winter.  But when this last order came in, I realized that my little basket where I keep her 'legs ...

Was no longer big enough.

So I got them all out, organized them, took a photo

And then realized that there are still two pairs that don't appear here.

The stack to the far left are ones we had last winter.  Stack #2 is from the Babylegs Cool collection - they are a light mesh fabric.  Stack #3 are four pairs of Supersoft - and they are PLUSH.  Can't WAIT for a nice cool fall day to try these on her.  The next-to-last stack are all new, bought this summer on clearance and during the 50% off sale, but it's been too hot to put them on her.  The last stack are two pairs from the holiday collection.

Once I folded them all, they all fit well into the basket.

Until a pants-less toddler strolled by and started playing.

Can't wait for cooler weather!

We have to work on the modeling skills

Its no secret that we love Babylegs. And other people love them too. Everyone at daycare stops me to tell me that they love her "little leggings". The ladies at the studio where my mom works think they're adorable.

I have found myself picking outfits that match the ones we have so she can wear them. One reason is that they protect her little knees, which sometimes have bruises from crawling. The other reason is they are just too adorable.

I have only paid full price for one pair so far. If you want to get your hands on some inexpensive Babylegs, I recommend you do the following:
1. Become their fan on Facebook. Every Friday they have a sale just for Facebook fans - I've seen it on Twitter too, but not every Friday. The code is always FANtastic, but to get to the collection that is on sale, you have to follow the link. And its a nice reminder when it pops up as their status periodically on Fridays. We are in desperate need of socks around here, and last Friday they had socks BOGO free with the code. Yay!
2. Join the forum at babylegsforum.com. Most days they have a free giveaway thread. Not too long after I joined I won a pair, so it's for real. I just don't have time to post everyday.
3. Pay attention to babysteals.com. They run periodic sales on Babylegs. On Earth Day they were selling a package of 5 pairs of clearance colors at a significant discount.
4. Of course there is a SALE section on the Babylegs website. They have free shipping, which is awesome.

To be honest, you can't get much better deals than the ones Babylegs themselves offer. If you look on FSOT, most mamas are selling the same pairs that the website has for $7, but they have them listed for the original price of $12. Amazon and other sites haven't marked down the sale items yet, so the same is true.

Why invest in Babylegs versus other brands? I haven't tried Huggalugs, so I can't speak for those. I did cheap out and buy the ones at Target. That was actually my introduction to "babylegs". I'm glad I have them, because they are pairs that I can use. However, the quality isn't nearly as good, and they are much shorter than the real Babylegs.



In addition to the length issue, my Circo/Target baby legwarmers are much thinner fabric, and have already gotten pilly and kindof faded. It's a cheap way to add to your stash, and the shorter size might be better on a newborn, but they don't work well on older babies.

I heart BabyLegs

When researching cloth diapers while I was pregnant, I read that alot of mamas used something called Babylegs. I gathered they were baby legwarmers, and that mamas thought they couldn't live without them.

Yes, and yes.

The original brand of baby legwarmers is BabyLegs, which can be purchased online through their website, other websites like Sew Crafty Baby, or even mainstream stores like Target. They made a line that I think were specifically for Target, called My First Babylegs.


Then, of course, come the knockoffs. I can say that, because I have as many pairs of these as I do "real" Babylegs! Target's brand of baby clothes is Circo, and they make baby legwarmers. And they are less expensive, but also not as good quality.


Putting your baby in a diaper and babylegs is the most effortless way to keep their legs warm - no taking pants on and off when doing the diaper changes. They are also useful under dresses to keep legs warm. Some mamas practice "elimination communication", which is where they have their little ones run around with nothing on their bottoms, so the little ones learn to communicate when they have to use the potty. Babylegs help keep little nekkid babies warm.


They are just too cute.

"Free?" you say ... yes, free. BabyLegs has a forum where mamas can discuss their addiction to BL. (And yes, by addiction, I mean that mamas are confessing that they have hundreds of pairs of these things. Makes my stash of 8 or so pairs pale by comparison!) If you join the forum you will see the Daily Giveaway thread. Most days there is a post that asks you a question. By posting you are entered into the Daily Giveaway. It is totally NOT random - if they like your post, they pick you. My post was to the thread about your favorite mommy and baby date. I posted about music class - either they were glad to have a new person enter, or they liked my post. But I won!
